This Report by Dr. Kossoff is dated November 2, 2006:
"A Modified Atkins Diet is Effective for the Treatment of Intractable Pediatric Epilepsy"

Would you like to participate in one of the Atkins for Seizures studies at Johns Hopkins? Other than your personal travel expense (and see 'Resources' for help with that), all costs are covered for the adult study. A grant has been applied for to cover the visits with the neurologist for the children's study.

If you meet the following qualifications, please contact Dr. Kossoff here for more information.

Children Between the ages of 3 and 18 years
 - Must have daily seizures
 - Must have tried two primary medications (and failed)
 - No Kidney, heart disease, or high cholesterol
- -Okay if patient has tried the Keto diet before
- -Not okay if the Atkins diet has been tried

Adults, 18 years and up
 - Must have a minimum of one seizure a week
 - Must have tried two primary medications (and failed)
 - No Kidney, heart disease, or high cholesterol
 - Okay if patient has tried the Keto diet before
 - Not okay if the Atkins diet has been tried

Note:  Because of the success and spreading popularity of this manner of treating seizures, more and more doctors, nutritionists, neurological centers and hospitals are offering support.  In some cases, the work with studies (and grants) is being repeated in new parts of the world.  Ask your doctor for a referral!
